Why do we do it to ourselves?!

Two British economists have discovered that sport robs fans of happiness.

Peter Dolton and George MacKerron of the University of Sussex used an app to determine the happiness of thousands of people before and after a soccer match.

They found the happiness that fans feel when their team wins is eclipsed by the sadness that hits when their team loses.

The researchers discovered that after a win, a typical fan experiences a happiness boost similar to listening to music.

However, the sadness fans feel after a loss is twice as much as the sadness they experience after working, studying or waiting in line.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Dolton and MacKerron said post-loss sadness lingers for hours while after-victory joy is fleeting.

A loss actually ends up robbing fans of about four times the amount of happiness they might have acquired from a win.

Time to stop watching the footie, perhaps?!
