Great news for couch potatoes!

New research has found being lazy is a sign of intelligence.

Findings from a study in the US suggests that people with a higher IQ get bored less easily, and therefore spend more time 'engaged in thought'.

On the other hand, people who aren't as smart are more likely to stimulate their minds with external activities such as exercising.

So, there may be some truth to the Hollywood stereotype of jocks and nerds?!

Researchers at Florida Gulf Coast University gave a test to a group of students.

The questionnaire asked the students to rate how strongly they agreed with statements such as 'I really enjoy a task that involves coming up with new solutions and problems', and 'I only think as hard as I have to.'

30 'thinkers' and 30 'non-thinkers' were then selected and monitored over seven days, by wearing a device on their wrist to track their levels of activity.

The results showed that the thinking group were far less active than the non-thinkers over the week.

So, the next time you spend a weekend doing a whole lot of nothing, don't feel guilty.

It could mean you're one of life’s thinkers!
