There's huge demand from students, parents and teachers to radically reform the Leaving Cert.

A new report on the future of the exam was published today by the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD).

The research found 81 per cent of students want to see the Leaving Cert reformed, while 97 per cent of parents support changes.

However, a much lower 65 per cent of teachers, principals and deputy principals want reform.

The report, entitled 'Senior Cycle Reform – What do you want?', found only 4 per cent of students feel the exam is a fair and accurate assessment of their knowledge and skills.

And a whopping 76 per cent want continuous assessment for the Leaving Cert.

Students (51%) are the only group who would support a teacher correcting their own assessment.

Only 22 per cent of principals, deputy principals and teachers support the practice of correcting their own students' work.
