Penelope is a friendly and sociable snake.

The ISPCA is seeking a special forever home for a python that caused a commotion in Co Leitrim this summer.

Penelope the python was first spotted by a startled member of the public near Kinlough Park, where she was sunning herself on the side of a trail.

She was seen several times in the park before she was finally rescued a week later in mid-July.

Penelope loves human interaction.

She was brought to a reptile centre in Letterkenny and identified as a Royal Python.

The nonvenomous snake is approximately three years old and one meter in length.

It’s unclear how she came to be in the park and because no one’s come forward with information regarding her origin, she can be re-homed.

However, Penelope’s new owner will need to be an experienced reptile keeper who can provide proper care for her, for the rest of her life.

Dave and Fionnuala spoke to ISPCA Senior Inspector Kevin McGinley to find out more about pythons and the specialist knowledge and skills you need to look after them:

If you're interested in adopting Penelope, please contact ISPCA Donegal Animal Rehabilitation Centre.
