Three quarters of us think we will have a Smart Home within 20 years.
One in four of us already have home technology such as remote heating and lighting controls.
While a third of us would like a smart hub in our home that connects all our smart devices together so you can control them all via a single app.
According to a new study by Smart Home week these are their headline figures:
- 85% of people have heard of a smart home – compared to 57% in 2015.
- 97% of people think a smart home is where you can control things like energy, lights, alarms easily or can be controlled by a mobile phone over the internet.
- Almost 1/4 of people have some smart capabilities in their home.
- 27% of people own at least one smart product .
- 75% think the majority of homes will be smart by 2040 – compared to 33% in 2015.
- 1/3 of people would like a smart hub in their home that connects all their smart devices together so you can control them all via a single app.
Topping our Smart Home technology wishlist is a self cleaning toilet, a fridge that reorders food and a bed which gradually wakes you up.
Other features include a wardrobe that irons clothes while they are hanging up and a carpet that retracts so you can have hardwood floors if you fancy a change.
So in Ireland what parts of your home can you automate right now?
Here are some tips from http://www.smarthomesguide.ie
Here is a completely non-exhaustive list of all the tasks/products that you could automate and or purchase for your Irish home as of 2016:
- Turn on/off and adjust the temperature in your home through a smart thermostat
- Play music/set alarms/timers etc just from your voice
- Turn on and off your TV
- Turn on/off products that are connected to a smart plug
- Ask for traffic updates just from your voice
- There are definitely more things to add to his list and it will always be changing, but the above are things that I have been told work 100%
