Ireland, we have a star in the making!
17-year old swimming sensation Mona McSharry swam her way into the record books over the weekend, claiming gold in the 100m-Womens Breaststroke at the 6th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis.
The Sligo local even managed to beat the National Senior record in the process, as she held off her rivals with a scorching time of 1:07:10, wow!
"It’s wonderful to win here at the World Juniors, to stand on top of the podium and hear our anthem played," said Mona afterwards.
"I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me on my journey so far; and now for the 200m – I’m not finished yet!"
Let's hope not! We can't wait to see what Mona has in store in the years to come.
