"I'm absolutely sickened to see the board stoop to this."
There's outrage amongst GAA fans as All-Ireland Ladies Senior Club champions Carnacon have been thrown out of the 2018 Mayo Football Championship.
The decision was taken by the Mayo county board last night, after a dozen of their players withdrew from the county's senior panel last month.
Eight of the twelve panel members, including four-time All-Ireland winner Cora Staunton, hail from Carnacon.
In a statement, they said they had left the panel "for player welfare issues that are personal and sensitive to the players involved."
A vote to remove Carnacon on the basis of bringing the game into disrepute was passed at the county board meeting.
It means the club is barred from competing in both the league and championship for the remainder of 2018, and will be unable to defend their Mayo, Connacht and All-Ireland ladies club football titles.
I can say it as I no longer play ball for carnacon but @Mayo_LGFA should be completely mortified!! Carnacon as a club has brought huge success to the county over the years!! This team who has dedicated their lives to this sport.Apologize and let them play the sport they love.!

Carnacon, All Ireland Senior Ladies Football champions, thrown out of the Mayo championship for their players involvement in the walkout from the county panel.
That is downright ridiculous. If those girls never tog out to play football again you could completely understand.

The move by @Mayo_LGFA to remove Carnacon from the league and championship is based on the rule below. It's vindictive, wholly disproportionate and absolutely uncalled for. I'm absolutely sickened to see the board stoop to this. pic.twitter.com/We44rI8AoQ
