The Loch Ness Monster - a mythical creature or a lake monster that's evaded capture for centuries?
It seems the Scottish government leans towards the latter as there's an official plan in place if Nessie were ever to be found.
According to the BBC, the Scottish Natural Heritage drew up the code of practice back in 2001.
The guidelines were created to give protection to new species found in Loch Ness, including a monster.
It specifies that a DNA sample should be taken from any new creature, and then it should be released back into the loch.
Phew! Nessie is safe.
Whatever your feelings on Nessie, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon stated last month that she believes the monster is real!
Nessie was first sighted in the sixth century by an Irish saint no less. It's believed St Columba came across the creature in the River Ness in 565AD.
