A demonstration at Trinity College Dublin against the introduction of a repeat exam fee has escalated tonight.

Students are now occupying the iconic Exam Hall in Front Square.

Earlier, the university called private security to lock down the Dining Hall, where 60 students have been staging a sit-in protest since yesterday.

TCD Students' Union say the men and women there have no access to food, water or toilet facilities.

However, Trinity College Dublin disputes this.

Now, approximately 50 students have taken over the Exam Hall where they're chanting 'Take Back Trinity' and 'No more fees'.

The 'Take Back Trinity' demonstration against the €450 fee to re-sit an exam began last week.

The latest update tonight comes from the Provost of Trinity, Patrick Prendergast, who says the university will 'seriously consider alternative proposals' on supplemental exam fees at the next board meeting.
