The series was based on the best selling novels by Meg Cabot, and speaking over the weekend she said

The director of the series, Garry Marshall, died in July 2016 aged 81 and in 2017, Julie Andrews who played Queen Clarisse Renaldi spoke to Buzzfeed saying:
"There's talk about it,"
"And [Anne's] very keen to do it. I would very willingly and happily do it."
"I think we might do it in honor of him"
"Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I'm all for it, so if she'd like to…"
