A love that was meant to be?

A Chinese couple looking through old photographs discovered something shocking - they unknowingly appeared in the same photo as teenagers.

Mr Ye and Ms Xue met in 2011 in the city of Chengdu, or at least that’s what they thought.

They had actually crossed paths 11 years before that.

The couple had visited the May Fourth Square in the city of Qingdao at the exact same moment on July 28th, 2000.

Ms Xue, wearing a white dress, had taken a photo in front of a large sculpture in the square. The picture also managed to capture her future husband, clad in a blue T-shirt and black trousers, in the background.

Bizarrely, Mr Ye wasn’t even meant to be there. He took his mother’s place on a tour group after she fell ill.

Speaking to Sina News, Mr Ye said:

"When I saw the photo, I was taken by surprise and I got goosebumps all over my body... that was my pose for taking photos.”

Mr Ye subsequently managed to find the photo he took at the sculpture back home.

China has a population of 1.3 billion and Qingdao has a population of 9 million - what are the chances?!
