If it doesn't go on Instagram, did it even happen?
A study carried out by Bolsover Crusie Club in the UK has found the main reason we post photos of our holidays on the gram is to make our friends and followers envy our trips abroad.
71% of people surveyed admitted that they share their holiday photos while they are still on holidays to make other people jealous. If that wasn't bad enough, 64% of respondents admitted to exaggerating how good their holidays were. What’s more, 45% have edited photos for social media to make a holiday appear better than it was.
But if you want to hold on to your precious Instagram followers than maybe be careful what you post!
68% of respondents would unfollow someone if they found out they were a ‘holiday bragger’.
But the research also found out that we don't just brag about holidays we brag and exaggerate relationships
These are the things that people most often exaggerate about on social media according to Bolsover Cruise Club's Survey
- Holidays 31%
- Relationships 21%
- Friendships (looking popular)18%
- Career 16%
- Personal Achievements 14%
The lesson learned from this?
