Almost 200 bird strikes have occurred at the airport in the past three years.

It's where birds collide with planes or are sucked into the engine.

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said bird strikes are "high-risk events" that can bring down aircraft.

The most well-known bird strike occurred in 2009 when US Airways Flight 1549 was forced to land on the Hudson River in New York after hitting a flock of geese.

It inspired the film Sully, which starred Tom Hanks as captain Chesley Sullenberger.

There were also 105 incidents involving hares at Dublin Airport, usually when they were sucked into engines as planes moved along the runway.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Siobhan O'Donnell from Dublin Airport explained how they prevent bird strikes from happening:

"A bird strike can have a catastrophic impact so we have to keep our grass a certain length to deter birds from nesting."

"Our airport police and fire service would be out onto the airfield throughout the day shooting flares to get birds away from the runway."

"We have hawk kites and we have a vehicle that goes around making bird sounds so birds will move."
