Strap yourself in.

A swan is so sad after his mate died that he can't sop hugging cars.

We know. It's just awful.

Traffic in Enniscorthy was brought to a halt in recent days, as a heartbroken male swan "hugged" oncoming cars.

Writing on their Facebook page, Wexford Society Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wrote, "Would anyone out there know how we can help this poor swan, it's mate has been killed but now he's stopping cars and just lying on them and he looks so sad and lonely. Any information would be appreciated"

The post garnered hundreds of comments, with some saying it's "distressing" to see.

Thankfully, the society have since posted an update to the status saying that the swan is now in the care of Dan Donoher, who is an animal rehabilitator from Co Kildare.

"Hopefully the Swan can be integrated into another flock and find a new mate and live a long and happy life."
