We all know breaking up is hard to do but did you know that most relationships come to an end at this time of year?
We're being warned that uncuffing season is just around the corner.
According to Cosmo, uncuffing season occurs when the clocks go forward and we see our relationships in the cold light of day.
Reportedly, people unconsciously hook up in winter to boost their serotonin. The dark mornings and evenings lead us to crave romance and companionship (and let's be honest, someone to keep us warm on those chilly nights!).
However, the whole thing reverses in mid-February. Psychologist Dr Danielle Forshee says:
"As the sunlight comes out more, the brain produces less melatonin and more serotonin, making you feel happier, you may not feel such a need to be around someone else to provide that sense of security and happiness."
To cement the theory, a 2010 analysis of 10,000 Facebook statuses that included the phrases "breakup" and "broken up" found two big spikes on the calendar for relationships ending - just after Valentine's Day and the weeks leading up to spring break.
So if you have been dumped, don't worry. It sounds like there will be plenty of other newly single people in the same boat - and who doesn't love a spring fling?!
