The unoccupied hotel in Co Leitrim suffered extensive smoke damage.

Gardaí are appealing for information after a fire broke out at the Shannon Key West Hotel in Rooskey last night.

The property was due to be used as a direct provision centre from this month.

The blaze broke out at around 8pm and the vacant building suffered extensive smoke damage.

Nobody was injured and Gardaí are asking the public for information.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan said he's "deeply concerned" about the incident.

It follows a fire at a hotel earmarked for direct provision in November.

The Caiseal Mara Hotel in Moville, Co Donegal was due to accept 100 asylum seekers when a blaze broke out.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Carrick on Shannon Garda Station on 071 9650510.
