Eighteen years ago, Leonardo DiCaprio's film The Beach put a little-known slice of paradise on the map.
The drama/thriller was filmed at Maya Bay on the Thai island of Ko Phi Phi Ley.
Since the success of the movie, the beach has become a tourist magnet. An unbelievable 5,000 visit every day.
However, this is destroying the local ecosystem. So much so that Maya Bay is going to be closed from June to September from now on.
Officials say the beach will be closed to tourists during low season to protect the coral reef and landscape.
People are horrible!
