English adventurer Alastair Humphreys was in Ireland at the weekend and he was taken aback by our hospitality.
The 41 year old, who was named National Geographic Adventurer of the Year in 2012, was speaking at the the Irish Adventure Film Festival in Westport.
After travelling all round the world, it turns out there’s a brilliant adventure country right next door! Ashamed to say this was my first visit to Ireland. It won’t be my last. #Ireland #Mayo #wildatlanticway https://t.co/gdpWjCroCY pic.twitter.com/ITcCFn8UhR

Alastair has trekked across Antarctica, run across the Sahara desert, rowed the Atlantic and walked across India, but he wasn't prepared for Ireland's one hundred thousand welcomes.
He tweeted on Saturday: "My morning in Ireland: hotel let me eat breakfast before it opened. Car broke down. Chef jump started it. Late to airport. Check in lady let me through. Cabin crew safety chat: everyone applauded. Friendly place!"

Alastair also praised the beauty of Mayo and said it won't be his last visit to Ireland.
