Nine men appeared in court today charged in relation to a number of looting incidents in Dublin last night.
A Lidl and a Centra store in the Tallaght area were among the shops targeted.
Video footage shared on social media showed a mechanical digger pulling down part of Lidl's outside wall in Fortunestown Lane, Citywest.
Gardaí responding to the incidents came under attack with sticks and stones.
Nine men aged between 20 and 47 were arrested and charged with a number of offences including theft, trespassing, committing criminal damage, possession of stolen goods and possession of a weapon.
They appeared before a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning.
Six were granted bail while three were remanded in custody to appear in court again on Thursday.
Local politicians have condemned the incidents. Fine Gael TD for Dublin South-West, Colm Brophy, says the Lidl looting was an appalling act of criminality:
Welcome the news that Gardai are making progress on the shocking criminal behaviour carried out in Lidl tonight.
These criminal thugs have put peoples jobs at risk and have used up precious resources of the Gardai and firefighters at a time of a national weather crisis— Colm Brophy (@brophytalks) March 2, 2018
