A dolphin that was rescued by the Cork City Fire Brigade has been found dead.
The dolphin had gotten stuck in overhanging branches in the River Lee, when the fire services stepped in to aid the mammal.
The dolphin was located about a kilometer from where the river meets the sea.

It then appeared to swim away after being freed by members of the fire service.
However, the same dolphin was discovered dead at low tide this morning.
It's remains were taken to the zoology department of UCC where at autopsy is to be performed to established what caused its death.
. @CorkCityFire came to the rescue of a dolphin in the River Lee last night. The alarm was raised when the dolphin was seen struggling under the branch of a tree at Wandesford Quay. It was later seen in the river at French`s Quay.
