Everton face a Uefa probe after their match against Lyon on Thursday, at Goodison Park in Liverpool, was interrupted in the 64th minute when Everton captain Ashley Williams challenged Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.
Lopes went tumbling toward the advertising boards, and Lyon teammates immediately came to his defense. The confrontation soon descended into a brawl.
It involved players and fans and one fan, seen holding a young child, joined in on the fight by punching the Lyon goalkeeper as this ugly brawl erupted on the sidelines.
It was eventually sorted out, with players and staff calming those at the heart of it. Play resumed shortly thereafter. Only two yellow cards were issued, to Williams and Lyon’s Bertrand Traore.
