A Council worker in Offaly has been taken to hospital following an accident in Tullamore.
The man in his fifties was among a group of staff working on a damaged street light at Kilbride Plaza at around 9.40 this morning when the pole collapsed.
He was taken to Tullamore Hospital where his condition has been described as critical but stable.
Gardaí say the scene is being preserved for the Health and Safety Authority to carry out a full investigation.
Offaly County Council says it has begun its own inquiries into what happened.
The street light was being removed because it had previously been damaged when it was struck by a car.
