The call to make the River Corrib safer has grown louder.

A petition, set up on change.org demanding improved safety measures along the banks of the Corrib, has over 21,000 signatures.

It's after a number of people have fallen into the river in Galway City in recent weeks.

Numerous lives are lost every year in the Corrib.

One of Europe's fastest flowing rivers, it's notorious for being extremely dangerous.

A powerful video to highlight the petition has been posted on Facebook.

Dave Sullivan recorded the video after his friend fell into the Corrib and it's since gone viral.

Louise on The Hub caught up with Dave to find out how increased safety measures, such as rope ladders and CCTV, can save lives.

Dave also spoke about suicide awareness and prevention, and the issue of alcohol and drugs.
