Budding designers: There's still time to register for Junk Kouture

The competition is open to secondary students in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

There's still time to enter this year's Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture competition.

Budding fashion designers have until Monday, January 21st to register for the creative contest.

Now in its ninth year, Junk Kouture calls on secondary school students to use everyday junk materials to create striking works of wearable art.

The all-island competition involves elements of fashion, design, engineering and environmental sustainability, and the King or Queen of the upcycled catwalk gets to strut away with some amazing prizes.

Last year saw a record number of applicants with over 1,500 designs entered, which were whittled down to just 80 finalists.

The grand final of Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture 2019 will take place on May 2nd in the 3Arena.

Students can register here and the judging panel will reveal who gets through to the regional finals in early February.

New judge Doireann Garrihy spoke to Garry and Fionnuala about what she'll be looking for from this year's entries.
