NBC has answered the emergency call sent out by Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans.

The network's rescued the beloved police comedy series, one day after it was cancelled by Fox.

It was revealed on Thursday that Brooklyn Nine-Nine had been axed by Fox after just five seasons.

Fans of the show flooded social media to express their outrage, including Star Wars actor Mark Hamill.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been praised for its inclusivity and diversity, featuring a cast including Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumero, Terry Crews, and Chelsea Peretti.

Speaking about picking up the show, Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment said:

"Ever since we sold this show to Fox I've regretted letting it get away, and it's high time it came back to its rightful home."

"We're all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up."

Stars of Brooklyn Nine -Nine took to social media to thanks fans for helping to save the show.
