The company has been temporarily shut down over the incident.

Next time your boss taps you on the shoulder and pulls you into their office, just be thankful you don’t live in China.

Footage of a Chinese company’s brutal punishment for its under-performing employees has gone viral, after female workers were forced to crawl on all-fours down a busy road.

The video was taken in Zaozhuang City in eastern Shandong Province and in it female workers can be seen crawling beside traffic, while a worker waves a company flag in front of them.

According to the Associated Press, the punishment was handed down to employees at a beauty company who failed to meet their targets for the year.

Police eventually stopped the workers and their leader.

The footage was widely condemned on Chinese social media, and the man was reprimanded by police, with the company he worked for receiving a temporary shut-down over the incident.

“I hope these companies that trample on their workers dignity would be closed down,” one social media user wrote.

“How could they give up their dignity for money?” asked another.

We'd definitely be asking for our P45's the next day!
