Australians  Vote Yes In Favour of Same-sex Marriage

Earlier this morning, we have received the exciting news that Australia has voted yes to same-sex marriage. Over 61.6% of registered voters voted yes in a controversial Postal Vote, which is the first step towards marriage equality.

Malcolm Turnbull (Australia's Prime Minister)  told reporters in Canberra,“Today we celebrate, tomorrow we legislate.” Malcolm Turnbull and George Brandis (Australian Senator) expect marriage equality will be law by Christmas.

An overwhelming amount of people voted in Australia. Normally voting in Australia is compulsory but for this referendum all voting was voluntary.Over 79.5% of the whole population voted. The vote had a bigger turn out than the brexit referendum and the US presidential election.
