A survey, commissioned by Lottoland, released over the weekend shows that almost half of Irish adults hate the Rose of Tralee.

It showed 51% of men and 43% of women and 54% of the 45 to 54 age droup disliked it most.

The survey asked which aspects of the Rose of Tralee were loved most by viewers: 22% said the cringe factor, 12% were drawn to it because of the banter on social media, 10% liked watching as you might know a participant or their family, while 47% said "nothing, I hate it".

Lottoland's Graham Ross said "Every year, people give out about the Rose of Tralee and yet every year, it’s always THE most talked and tweeted about programme.

“As kids it signalled the start of the last week before heading back to school.

“And, even as adults, it’s a sure sign that summer is almost over.

“But one thing is for sure – the cute people from the Kingdom have a winning formula to keep the nation hooked every year despite the naysayers!”
