In the days before Netflix, we used to need to tune into our favourite shows at a set time to see what the lovebirds on our favourite TV shows were up to.
Would it be on? Would it be off? Who’d shifted who? It didn’t matter. Waiting a week to find out was torture.
These were the old skool couples that we looked up to, idolised and (sometimes) wanted to be. Matches made in heaven.
6. Meredith and Derek, Grey’s Anatomy
Nothing was straightforward in the world of Meredith and Derek; namely the fact that communication between the pair was atrocious and that his estranged wife decided to pop back into town at one stage. Also, they got married via a Post-It.
5. Gabrielle and John – Desperate Housewives
It’s certainly not the most wholesome relationship on the list but it’s definitely one of the most exciting. Everyone knew it could never truly work between Gabrielle and her hunky gardener in the first series of Desperate Housewives – but a part of us always hoped it would.
4. Seth and Summer – The OC
Proof that beauty and the geek could work together. OC audiences were captivated watching Summer teach the inexperienced Seth all about love. We all might have learned a thing or two along the way too.
3. Pacey and Joey – Dawson’s Creek
It was definitely confusing when Dawson’s best friend and childhood sweetheart started shifting but we bought into their relationship bigtime. Honestly, it could have just as easily been Seth and Summer in number 3 on the list but Pacey and Joey eloped on a boat for a while giving them a slight edge.
2. Miley and Biddy - Glenroe
You might laugh but Miley and Biddy were a top shelf TV couple. Sure, they weren’t perfect and Miley did kind of have a romp in the hay with Fidelma. But despite their problems they did manage to power through until that fateful day with Biddy, the car and the teddybear.
1. Ross and Rachel - Friends
Ross and Rachel are TV relationship royalty and we won’t hear anyone say otherwise. From the awkward kiss in the laundrette to “being on a break” to when Rachel got off the plane, these two gave us hope that true love could (eventually) last.
