There is officially a drought in Ireland as soil moisture deficits exceed 75mm prompting fears of a water crisis with water cuts due to take place across many parts of Ireland.
People working in the agriculture sector are also very concerned there will be a fodder crisis with a lack of fodder being saved for the winter due to the lack of rain and low moisture levels in the soil.
The current heatwave saw highest temperatures in Shannon Airport yesterday hitting 31 degrees. Rain at the start of last week has left the northwest in a better position than the rest of the country.
Most of us have already been referring to the unusual weather as a heatwave. Once today's temperatures reach 25 degrees or higher - we can accurately call the current warm spell a 'heatwave'.
