As protests continue across the word for #BlackLivesMatter, The Weeknd has made a generous contribution.

The singer has donated $500,000(€447,720 ) to the Black Lives Matter movement and other groups.

The Weeknd who's real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, took to social media to show receipts of his donation and asked others "with big pockets" to donate what they could.

On his Instagram he said:"Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,"

"Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it's a small amount #blacklivesmatter."

The 30-year-old donated $200,0000 to Black Lives Matter Global Network, $200,000 to the Know Your Rights campaign, and another $100,000 to the National Bail Out.

The donation comes following the death of  George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody after a white officer knelt of his neck.

The death caused mass protests around the world, including many instagram users posting a black tile on their pages in support of #BlackoutTuesday
