An unpleasant discovery during a holiday in Ireland.
Airbnb says it has removed from its site, a "bad actor" who hid a camera inside a smoke alarm at a property in Cork.
The accommodation site has also apologised and given a full refund to the Barker family, who found the device while staying the house last month.
Nealie Barker says her husband discovered it after getting onto the WiFi network.
"He's an IT consultant by trade. He scanned the network of the house, he saw a device called an IP camera which didn't belong to any of us. Almost immediately the live feed of a video recorder or camera that we didn't know was there, popped up onto his mobile phone and we could all see ourselves."
The family say they were shocked by the discovery and phoned the host, who eventually admitted hiding the camera.
They took screenshots and sent them to Airbnb but claim the company initially cleared the host of any wrongdoing.
However Airbnb now says the "bad actor" is gone from the site and insists hidden cameras are never allowed.
The Data Protection Commission is also looking into the incident.
