A puppy left out in the freezing cold has tragically died.

Limerick Animal Welfare has warned the public about the dangers of leaving pets outside during the current cold snap.

The warning comes after a puppy which was left fighting for it's life after being left outside overnight, tragically died.

Limerick Animal Welfare took their social media to update their followers about the sad news last night.

Upon finding the pup, whose name is Petey, they wrote: "This seven-month-old puppy was left out in the cold last night and is fighting for his life at Mid West vets.

"His body temperature is low but he has a heartbeat and Sally is doing everything she can to save him.

"Never leave your pets out in the cold. This puppy is now under the care of LAW please donate towards his care."

Sadly Petey lost his fight.

Posting an update, they said: "Sadly Petey passed away it was too much for his little body to recover.

"Thank you to all the kind people who donated and offered to care for him.

"All money raised will go to care for more animals like Petey that need help."
