It happened in the early hours of this morning
Shortly after half 2 emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian found unresponsive on the Rathmullen Road in Drogheda.
The man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene, while the car involved failed to remain at the scene.
Gardaí later recovered a car that they suspect was involved.
It will now be subject to a forensic examination.
The scene is currently sealed off today, with diversions in place.
Forensic collision investigators are due shortly.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information or anyone who may have dash cam footage of the area last night to get in contact with them.
