2024 Olympic games opening ceremony

The opening ceremony for the 33rd Olympic games took place last night in Paris, France. It marked the first Olympic games held in France in exactly 100 years. Stars such as Zinedine Zidane, Lady Gaga , Serena Williams and Celine Dion took part in the opening ceremony.

As part of the ceremony the Olympic teams sailed down the river Seine in an untraditional procession.

Team Ireland were led by Limerick's Sarah Lavin and Offaly's Shane Lowery as joint flag bearers.
This year's Irish team is biggest team to date consisting of 133 members.
Ireland enter this years Olympics hoping to break there own record, that they set at the Tokyo Olympics 3 years ago where they collected  4  medals.
In 2021 Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy won gold in rowing (lightweight double sculls) and Kellie Harrington in boxing (lightweight).
The two bronze medal winners were the women's coxless four event team in rowing consisting of  Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lambe, Fiona Murtagh and Aidan Walsh in boxing (welterweight)
The Olympic games are running from July 26th to August 11th 2024
