Irish population grows by 10%

Ireland's population increased by 10 percent from 2012 to last year.

The CSO has released it's Measuring Ireland report - which looks at Ireland's progress compared to the EU.

Ireland's 10 year population growth is the third highest among the EU, behind Malta and Luxembourg.

The number of people over 45 years of age went up from just under 35 percent to 40 percent in that time frame.

While the number of under 45s reduced from 65 percent to just under 60 percent - highlighting an aging population.

The report found Ireland had the highest consumer prices in the EU at the end of 2021, 43 percent above the bloc's average.

The government has plans for numerous initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which were measured at 11.6 tonnes here in 2020.

At that time, only Luxembourg had higher emissions.

At just under 81 years of age, Irish men has the highest life expectancy in Europe.

The life expectancy for women is over 84 years old.
