Public transport reductions for 18-23 year olds kick in tomorrow

Good news for students and young people!

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan and the National Transport Authority have launched the 50% public transport fare reduction for young people.

The half-price fares take effect tomorrow, Monday 9^th May.

The new low fares apply to all subsidised public transport journeys on Dublin Bus, Iarnród Éireann, Bus Éireann, Luas, Go-Ahead Ireland and Local Link.

All adults aged 19 to 23 are eligible for the half-price fares.

Eligibility continues up to the day before their 24^th birthday.

If you have a current Student Leap Card, you don't need to take any action to avail of the reduced fairs.

You simply pay for your journey by Leap, and the reduced fare is deducted from your card in the normal way.

However, non-student young adults will need to apply for a Young Adult Leap Card for use when travelling.

The facility to apply for the Card is done online and opens on Monday, May 9^th.

Cards will be delivered by post to the customers.

Customers aged under 19, already benefit from the Child 16-18 Leap Card, which is valid up to day before their 19^th birthday.

Meanwhile all public transport fares in Dublin are set to drop by 20 per cent from tomorrow.

The Transport For Ireland's 90-Minute Fare, introduced last year, will fall to €2 for adults and 65c for children.

Last month the 20 per cent reduction was introduced on public transport outside of Dublin.
