They're now looking for their forever home.

Six newborn puppies who were found abandoned in a cardboard box are ready to be re-homed.

They were just a few days old when they were discovered on the roadside in Granard in County Longford. The pups were then rushed to a nearby vet, who checked them over and later brought them to the National Animal Centre where they were placed under a heat lamp. The pups needed round-the-clock care and had to be hand-fed in the absence of their mother.

The ISPCA's Hugh O'Toole said:

“Leaving such young puppies without their mother most definitely put their lives at risk and it is impossible to understand how someone could just leave six defenceless puppies, on the side of a road, left for dead. It’s simply inhumane.

"We exhausted our efforts to locate the mother dog as we are worried she could be suffering from mastitis and may need veterinary attention.

"She is likely looking for her puppies and we are appealing to the public to get in touch if they have any information”.

Luckily the puppies are now thriving and are ready to be adopted. Anyone interested in adopting them is asked to contact the ISPCA website or email them on [email protected].
