All employees will have a right to be paid for 10 sick days a year from 2025.

The cabinet has approved the plan which will be phased in over the next four years to give employers time to prepare.

From next year, employees will be allowed to take three paid sick days a year.

Under the proposed Sick Leave Bill 2021, that'll rise to five days the following year. Then it'll be seven days in 2024, before reaching the maximum of ten days each year in 2025.

Around 50% of all employers don't currently provide sick pay .

They'll have to make the new payment at 70% of their workers daily salary, to a max of €110 a day.
