It's the first time he'll leave a hospital setting since he was attacked.
Seán Cox will attend a charity match to raise funds for his recovery at the Aviva Stadium this coming Friday.
The 53-year-old father of three was attacked almost a year ago outside Anfield - before Liverpool played Roma in the Champions League.
It'll be the first time he'll attend an event outside of a hospital setting since the assaulted.
On Friday, a team of Liverpool legends will take on a-Republic of Ireland selection to support Seán's medical care.
Stephen Felle, , a friend of the family and head of the organising committee, says it'll be an emotional evening,
"It's very special for the family. It's very emotional for Martina.
I was speaking to her this morning. I said does Seán know he's going and she said he does and he's excited. She keeps reminding and she said he keeps smiling and can't wait."
After the attack, Seán spent five weeks in a specialist neurological unit in Liverpool, before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
Stephen says Seán's recovery is difficult and slow,
"I think people need to under the degrees of magnitude. They are very, very small.
It is heartening that Seán can say more words, or that he might be more alert, or that his movement might be improving.
But it remains very, very serious for Seán. He's going to need care for the rest of his life."
