Image via Unsplash.comThe Government is signing off on plans requiring supermarkets, newsagents and pharmacies to keep accepting physical money.
It comes as the spending of notes and coins fell by around €6.5 billion between 2020 and 2022.
The move has been widely welcomed by retailers who say they're more in favour of keeping physical notes. Some business owners noted that cash is needed when things like phone coverage, or internet and power outages happen.
The Government is finalising the plans today to stop outlets from going fully digital. The measures will also include having a certain number of ATMs per 100,000 people and within 10km of where they live.
Its hoped the plans will make sure rural and older communities won't be marginalized.
