Record New Year's Eve temperatures in Ireland

Last night was the mildest New Year’s Eve on record!

Temperatures fell no lower than 12.4°C in three of the four provinces.

Donegal's Malin Head; the Phoenix Park in Dublin and Valentia in Kerry all clocked the record temperature overnight.

Previously the, highest minimum temperature was 11.4°C at Valentia, recorded on 31st of December 2007.

Mullingar, Westmeath equalled that temperature last night, while places in 12 different counties beat the previous record.

Along with Donegal, Dublin and Kerry; record temperatures were recorded in Mayo, Galway, Meath, Sligo, Roscommon, Clare, Cork, Tipperary and Carlow.

 

Meanwhile, with 13.8 °C recorded at Murlough, yesterday, Northern Ireland has an updated New Year’s Eve daytime maximum temperature record.

The previous highest New Year’s Eve highest temperature for Northern Ireland was 13.0C, recorded at: Pubble Forest (Fermanagh) in 1974; Murlough (Down) in 2011; and Loughall (Armagh) in 2014.
