An Orange forest fire alert warning is in place for most of Ireland.

The Department of Agriculture issued the warning today and it's in place until at least Tuesday the 23rd.

The alert is in place because of the easterly high-pressure conditions and high temperatures forecas and it exists on all areas where hazardous fuels such as gorse, heather, dried grasses and other dead vegetation exist.

In some areas, the fire risk may be moderated temporarily by scattered light rain, according to the department.

The public is being reminded to be cautious as fire risk is expected to peak significantly on Monday due to good weather conditions.
