Would we manage to stay out that late?
It's been tough two years for the nightclub industry, having been closed for the vast majority of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But it's now being reported that the Government is looking at ways to boost the sector.
The Irish Daily Mail reports that new legislation could allow nightclubs to stay open until 6am.
According to the paper, Government sources said the details of the new licensing laws will be published by Minister Helen McEntee "within weeks".
Then it's reported that legislation will be before the Oireachtas before the summer recess.
It's come from a public consultation that was launched in November 2021 by Minister McEntee.
At the time she said:
"I am committed to enacting alcohol licensing laws that reflect the changing expectations and lifestyles of 21st century Ireland."
The Give Us the Night Campaign is an advocacy group for the sector.
They had lobbied Government for a 6pm to 6am trading hours.
According to the group, the number of nightclubs has decreased dramatically in the past 20 years.
They say there was around 500 in the country 20 years ago, with the number now standing at around 100.
The Irish Daily Mail had reached out to Minister McEntee for a comment, which they report she "refused".
Have your say:
Legislation could be brought in for nightclubs to stay open past 6am. Do you think it should happen?https://t.co/Wsm51BVDTD#nightclub #iradionews
