Tax breaks designed to help middle income families come into effect in Ireland today.

The standard tax rate is set to rise for single people, one parent families and couples as announced in the budget last October.

There will also be an increase in the personal tax credit, while the national minimum wage has gone up from €10.20 per hour to €10.50.
