It was detected in the east of the country.
The first case of monkeypox has been identified in the Republic.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says it was detected by health authorities yesterday.
It comes as the first case of the mild illness on the island was confirmed in the north on Thursday.
Minister Donnelly says vaccines are on the way to help fight the virus.
"We have a little over 200 cases reported in Europe, and very few have been hospitalised and I'm advised that's where people had underlying conditions or were immunocompromised," he said.
"The HSE has secured third generation smallpox vaccines, that's on its way now."
The confirmed case was identified in the east yesterday, according to Minister Donnelly.
