The National Emergency Co-ordination Group has been called for a meeting at 4pm today.
The national forecaster has said it's on standby to issue a status orange weather warning for certain areas as Hurricane Lorenzo approaches Ireland.
Met Éireann says there's still uncertainty surrounding the exact track of the hurricane, but by the time it reaches Irish shores, it's predicted to have weakened to a tropical storm.
The National Emergency Co-Ordination group has been convened for a meeting by the Housing Minister at 4pm today in Agriculture House.
While the ESB, Gardaí, public transport operators and local authorities have been told to be ready to activate their crisis management plans.

Evelyn Cusack, Head of Forecasting at Met Eireann, said they’re waiting to see how the storm develops before issuing a weather warning.
''While it will give some very wet and very windy weather perhaps orange level warnings will be the worst,'' she said.
''Perhaps touching status red warnings on the wet and north west coast, but we won't be issuing those warnings until Wednesday morning''.
