The UK Met Office is predicting a three-month-long 28C heatwave.
Met Eireann has responded to claims from the UK Met Office that a 28C "Spanish plume" will put some serious sizzle in our summer this year.
The Met Office has been stirring up excitement recently with its predictions of a three-month-long heatwave. With the British Met Office's long-range forecast predicts it is 10 times more likely Britain will sizzle from May until July.
However Met Eireann says it's impossible to make such predictions this far in advance and Meteorologist Joanna Donnelly has dismissed the bold predictions as "nonsense", reports the independent.
"Nobody can predict a heatwave in July," she said.
"What the Met Office is looking at is seasonable trends based on observations of the stratosphere.
"It's looking at probabilities of what could happen, but you can't say the second of June will be a fine and sunny day - that's nonsense.
"We have the same climate every year. Our summers are 20C at times with prevailing south-westerly winds. You can only predict the weather five days in advance, but that depends on what the situation is at that time of the forecast."
Well that's a bummer...
Good weekend ahead.
Looking closer to the now and the weather this upcoming bank holiday weekend looks set to be decisively better than the one just gone.
Met Éireann predicting "a good deal of dry weather with temps ranging from 15 to 19 degrees" for Friday and next weekend.
Sounds good! 99 weather just about. You can check out the full forecast here.
