Galway has been included in the status orange warning.
Met Éireann has updated its status orange warning for damaging gusts to include five counties.
County Galway has been included in the warning which was previously in place for counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
The warning is valid from Tuesday (today) March 12th at 5pm to Wednesday March 13th at 9am.
The national forecaster predicts Storm Gareth will bring winds of 80km/h with severe and damaging gusts of 110 to over 130km/h.
There is also the risk of coastal flooding due to high seas.
Continuing stormy this evening and tonight, with further severe or damaging gusts. Sustained strong to gale force and gusty west to northwest winds will persist. Meanwhile a status yellow wind warning remains valid for Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
