Be prepared to give up some sleep!

A lunar eclipse will be visible in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

During it, the moon will turn a deep blood red colour.

Astronomy Ireland is inviting everyone to go outdoors and take a look at the skies from 3am tomorrow morning.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and the Moon are aligned with the Earth in the middle, resulting in the total darkening of the Moon's surface.

It's the first one since May 2021.

A total eclipse of the Moon will be visible just as the Sun is rising tomorrow morning and the Moon is setting.

David Moore of Astronomy Ireland said the phenomenon will be visible from Ireland, no matter what the weather is like.

"We always tell people to ignore the weather forecast; it's the full moon that's going to undergo this particular phenomenon and you'll be able to see the full moon between tiny breaks of cloud," Moore said.

"So, even if the weather is dreadful, people will be able to see it. We don't want people to look out at 3am, see that it's cloudy and give up because at 4am it could be gloriously clear."

So, keep checking the sky and don't go by the weather forecast," he added.
